Payment Methods
Last updated:
This page explains how paying for a Pearltee order works: where you see the payment options, which currency you pay in, when your payment is taken, how it is protected, what to do if a payment fails and how refunds find their way back to you. The payment options available for your order are always shown at checkout, on the final step before you confirm, so that is the place to check what you can use today.
The short version
- Prices and payments are in US dollars (USD).
- The payment options for your order are displayed at checkout before you pay.
- Payments are handled by secure third-party payment providers; Pearltee never sees or stores your full card number.
- Your payment is taken when you place the order, and the order only exists once a payment succeeds.
- Approved refunds reach your original payment method within 7 calendar days.
1. Where to find the payment options
When you reach the checkout, after your contact details and shipping address, you will see a payment section listing every option currently available for your order. Each option shows its name and, where relevant, a short note on how it works, for example whether you complete the payment on the provider’s own secure page. Only options that are switched on and working are shown there, which is why we point you to the checkout rather than listing logos on this page.
We are setting up our payment options carefully and will list them on this page by name as soon as they are live and tested at checkout. Until then, if you cannot see an option that suits you, email [email protected] and tell us what you would like to use. That feedback directly shapes which options we add.
2. Paying, step by step
- Add your shirts to the cart and check each design, size and quantity.
- Go to checkout and enter your email address, billing address and the shipping address in the United States, Canada, Australia or New Zealand.
- Confirm that the shipping line shows “Free shipping” and review the item total and any tax.
- Choose one of the payment options shown and complete any confirmation step your bank or the payment provider asks for.
- Wait for the order confirmation page and email. The email, with your order number, is your proof that the payment succeeded and the order exists.
If you close the browser or lose your connection before the confirmation page appears, check your email before trying again. If an order confirmation has arrived, your order went through; if not, no order was created.
3. Currency and how prices are shown
Everything on Pearltee is priced in US dollars. The product page shows the price of each shirt, and the cart and checkout show the item total, shipping (free to the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand) and any tax before you pay. The total you confirm is the total you are charged by us.
If your card or account is in Canadian, Australian or New Zealand dollars, or any other currency, your bank or payment provider converts the US dollar amount at its own exchange rate. Some banks add a foreign transaction fee for purchases in another currency. That fee, if any, is set by your bank and appears on your statement separately; it is not charged by Pearltee and we cannot see or refund it. If you shop with us often from outside the USA, a card without foreign transaction fees can save you a little on every order.
4. When you are charged
Your payment is taken when you click to place your order and the payment provider approves it. You then receive an order confirmation email with your order number. If the payment does not succeed, no order is created and nothing is shipped, so you will not be charged for an order you never received.
Some banks show a temporary “pending” authorization when you attempt a payment, even one that fails. These pending lines are not charges; they usually disappear on their own within a few business days, depending on your bank. If you are unsure whether a line on your statement is a real charge, send us the date and amount and we will check it against our records.
5. How your payment is protected
The entire Pearltee site, including the cart and checkout, uses an encrypted HTTPS connection, which you can confirm by the padlock symbol in your browser’s address bar. Payment details are entered into, or sent directly to, the payment provider’s secure systems, which are required to meet the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS). Pearltee receives only a confirmation that the payment succeeded and limited reference details, such as the type of card and its last four digits, which helps us find your payment if you ever need help with it.
Your bank may ask you to confirm a payment, for example with a one-time code sent to your phone or a prompt in your banking app. This extra step, often called 3-D Secure or strong customer authentication, is run by your card issuer to make sure it is really you, and it protects you from fraud. Please complete it when asked; if the confirmation window closes or times out, the payment will not go through and you can simply try again.
6. If your payment is declined
A declined payment is frustrating but usually easy to fix. The most common reasons are:
- the billing address or postal code does not exactly match the one your bank has on file;
- the card number, expiry date or security code was mistyped;
- the card has expired, or has been replaced with a new one;
- there are not enough available funds, or a daily spending limit has been reached;
- your bank has flagged an online or international purchase as unusual and blocked it as a precaution.
Check the details and try again, try a different payment option shown at checkout, or contact your bank and ask them to allow the payment. Banks rarely tell merchants the exact reason for a decline, so your bank is the best source of information. Because a failed payment does not create an order, you will not be charged twice for trying again.
7. Duplicate charges
If you believe you have been charged twice for the same order, email [email protected] with the order number and the dates and amounts of both charges, and a screenshot if possible. If we find a duplicate charge, we refund it in full, and the money reaches your original payment method within 7 calendar days. If the second line turns out to be a temporary authorization, we will explain that and tell you when to expect it to drop off.
8. Order verification
To protect our customers from fraud, we occasionally ask a customer to confirm a detail about an order before we ship it, for example when a billing and shipping address are very far apart or the order is unusually large. We only ask through the email address on the order, and we never ask for your full card number, security code or password. If we cannot verify a payment, we cancel the order and refund it in full rather than shipping it.
9. Taxes
If sales tax applies to your order, it is calculated at checkout based on your shipping address and shown as a separate line before you pay. Orders shipped to Canada, Australia and New Zealand may be subject to import taxes such as GST or HST and customs charges collected by those countries when the parcel arrives; those are not charged at our checkout. Our Shipping & Delivery page explains this in more detail.
10. Discount codes and store credit
If you have a valid discount code, enter it in the coupon field in the cart or at checkout before you pay, and the discount appears in your order total straight away. Codes have no cash value and normally cannot be combined unless their terms say so. If you hold store credit from a return, we will tell you how to apply it when we issue it, or you can ask us to apply it to your next order. The rules for promotions are covered in our Terms of Service.
11. Paying for group, team or gift orders
Ordering shirts for a reunion, a team or a party often means one person pays for everyone. You can place one order with every size in it and pay for it in a single payment, which also keeps the shirts travelling together. For gifts, you pay as usual and enter the recipient’s address as the shipping address; our packing slips do not show prices. If you need an order split across several payment methods or several people, please place separate orders, because each order can only be paid with one payment.
12. Receipts and order records
Your order confirmation email is your receipt. It lists each shirt, its size and price, shipping, tax and the order total. If you have an account, every past order is also available under your account’s order history. If you need a copy of a receipt resent, for example for an expense claim, email us with the order number and we will send it.
13. Refunds
Refunds always go back to the payment method used for the order. Once a refund is approved, after a return is inspected, a photo claim is accepted or a cancellation is confirmed, it reaches your original payment method within 7 calendar days. Refunds are made in US dollars; if your bank converted the original payment, it converts the refund back at its current rate. Full details, including what is refunded in each situation, are on our Refund Policy page.
14. Staying safe from payment scams
Pearltee will never ask you to pay by gift card, wire transfer, cryptocurrency or a payment link sent by text message, and we will never ask for your card number, security code, banking password or a one-time code by email, chat or phone. Payments are only made through the checkout on https://pearltee.com. If you receive a message that claims to be from Pearltee and asks for payment details, do not reply or click any links; forward it to [email protected] so we can warn other customers.
15. Problems with a payment
If anything about a payment looks wrong, please talk to us before opening a dispute with your bank. Most issues, like a duplicate charge or a cancelled order that still shows as pending, can be resolved within a day by email, which is usually faster than a card dispute. Contacting us first never affects your rights with your bank or payment provider.
