Privacy Policy

Last updated:

This Privacy Policy explains how Pearltee handles personal information when you browse https://pearltee.com, buy a T-shirt, create an account or contact our support team. It covers what we collect, why we collect it, who helps us process it, how long we keep it and how you can see, correct or delete it. Pearltee is operated by Pearltee, 1863 Barclay St, Maplewood, MN 55109, United States. For any privacy question or request, email [email protected].

The short version

  • We collect what we need to sell you a shirt, deliver it and help you afterwards, and very little else.
  • We do not sell your personal information, and we do not rent or trade mailing lists.
  • Payment card numbers are handled by the payment provider at checkout, never stored on our servers.
  • We do not currently run third-party analytics or advertising trackers on the site.
  • You can ask us to show you, correct or delete your information at any time.

1. Who is responsible for your information

Pearltee, at the address above, decides how and why your personal information is used on this site, which makes us the “controller” or “business” under most privacy laws. We are a small online store, so privacy questions are answered by the same team that handles orders, through [email protected]. We reply within 1 business day and complete formal requests within the time the law in your country requires.

2. What we collect

2.1 When you place an order

To fulfil an order we need your name, email address, billing address, shipping address and, if you choose to give it, a phone number for the carrier. We record what you ordered, including designs, sizes and quantities, the price and taxes, and the order status. If you are sending a gift, we also hold the recipient’s name and address, which we use only to deliver that parcel.

2.2 When you create an account

An account stores your name, email address, a password (kept in encrypted, hashed form that we cannot read), saved addresses and your order history. You can use the store without an account; checkout works as a guest.

2.3 When you contact us

If you email us, submit a ticket or use a contact form, we keep your message, your email address, any order number you mention and any photos you attach, for example pictures of a damaged shirt or a size label. Please do not include payment card details or passwords in messages; we will never ask for them.

2.4 When you browse

Like almost every website, our servers and our security and delivery network automatically receive technical information when you visit: your IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, the page you requested, the page that referred you and the date and time. This information is used to deliver pages, protect the site from abuse and fix errors. Section 5 explains cookies.

2.5 What we do not collect

We do not ask for your date of birth, government ID numbers or sensitive information such as health data. We do not knowingly collect information from children. We do not buy personal information about you from data brokers.

3. Why we use your information

Purposes for using personal information and the legal basis
Purpose Information used Legal basis (where the law asks for one)
Processing and delivering orders, sending confirmations and tracking Contact, address and order details Performing our contract with you
Returns, exchanges, refunds and support Order details, messages, photos Performing our contract with you
Running your account Account details and order history Performing our contract with you
Keeping the site secure and preventing fraud Technical data, order and payment status Our legitimate interests and legal obligations
Tax, accounting and legal record-keeping Order and payment records Legal obligation
Marketing emails, only if you opt in Email address and preferences Your consent, which you can withdraw at any time

We do not use your information for automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you, and we do not build advertising profiles about you.

4. Who we share it with

We share personal information only with service providers that help us run the store, and only what each one needs to do its job:

  • Payment providers that process the payment at checkout. They receive your payment details directly and tell us whether the payment succeeded. We name the providers on our Payment Methods page once they are live at checkout.
  • Shipping carriers receive the recipient’s name, delivery address and, if provided, a phone number so they can deliver the parcel and send delivery updates.
  • Website hosting and email providers store the site, its database and our support mailbox.
  • Our content delivery and security network sits in front of the site, filters malicious traffic and speeds up page loading. It processes technical data such as IP addresses for those purposes.

These providers may use the information only to provide their service to us, not for their own marketing. We may also disclose information when required by law, to respond to a lawful request from authorities, to protect the rights, property or safety of Pearltee, our customers or others, or as part of a business transfer such as a sale or merger, in which case this policy would continue to protect your information.

We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. If that ever changes, we will update this policy first and give you a clear way to opt out where the law requires.

5. Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small files your browser stores for a website. Pearltee uses essential cookies that keep the store working: remembering what is in your cart, keeping you signed in to your account, protecting checkout and forms from abuse, and remembering that you have dismissed a notice. The site cannot work properly without them, so they do not require consent.

We do not currently use analytics, advertising or social media tracking cookies. If we add any tool of that kind in the future, we will list it here and, where the law requires, ask for your consent before it runs. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time; if you block essential cookies, the cart and checkout will not work.

6. Emails we send

Order emails, such as confirmations, shipping notices with tracking, and messages about returns or refunds, are part of providing your order and are sent whether or not you subscribe to anything. Marketing emails, such as new designs or promotions, are only sent if you have opted in, and every marketing email contains an unsubscribe link that works immediately. Unsubscribing from marketing does not stop order emails for orders you have placed.

7. How long we keep information

  • Order records are kept for as long as tax and accounting law requires, usually several years after the order.
  • Account information is kept while your account is open. If you ask us to close it, we delete or anonymise the account, keeping only the order records we must retain by law.
  • Support conversations are kept while they are useful for resolving your request and handling any follow-up, such as a return within the 60-day window.
  • Technical logs are kept for a short period for security and troubleshooting, then deleted.
  • Marketing preferences are kept until you unsubscribe, after which we keep only a record that you opted out, so we do not email you again.

8. How we protect it

The whole site is served over encrypted HTTPS. Access to customer information is limited to the people who need it to handle orders and support. Passwords are stored in hashed form, and payment card details are entered directly with the payment provider rather than stored by us. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, and if a breach affects your personal information we will notify you and the relevant authorities where the law requires.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • know what personal information we hold about you and get a copy of it;
  • correct information that is wrong or incomplete;
  • delete your information, subject to records we must keep by law;
  • receive your information in a portable format;
  • object to or restrict certain uses, and withdraw consent you have given;
  • opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information or targeted advertising (we do neither);
  • complain to your local privacy regulator.

Customers in US states with consumer privacy laws, in Canada under federal and provincial privacy law, in Australia under the Privacy Act and in New Zealand under the Privacy Act 2020 can use these rights by emailing [email protected] from the address linked to their order or account. We may ask for a detail from a recent order to confirm your identity before we act. You can also appoint an authorised agent to make a request for you, with your written permission. We will never charge you more, give you a worse service or treat you differently for using your privacy rights.

10. Children

Pearltee is a general audience store and is not directed at children under 13, or under 16 where local law sets a higher age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Parents can of course buy shirts for children using their own details. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

11. International transfers

Pearltee is based in the United States and our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries. If you shop from Canada, Australia or New Zealand, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those at home. We take steps to make sure your information remains protected, for example by working with providers that commit to appropriate safeguards.

12. Changes to this policy

We will update this policy when our practices, our service providers or the law change, for example when a payment provider is connected or if we ever add an analytics tool. The “Last updated” date at the top shows the latest version. If a change materially affects how we use information you have already given us, we will tell you by email or with a clear notice on the site.

13. Contact us
